The poem was first published in 1845, throughout the poem Browning dislikes the Bishop in the poem and reveals his meanness of mind, selfishness, materialistic outlook, above all hypocrisy. Bishop is the narrator of the poem and his words bring his ill traits of character to light.
The first line of this poem is a Biblical quotation.
This poem is about a dying bishop who envied the bishop before 'Gandolf'.
Throughout the poem Browning muddles up the poem, because he includes the bishops wife as well as Gandolf.
I personally didn't like this poem as it was very muddled and not clear of what Browning was trying to achieve when writing this poem. Also Browning could of made the poem allot shorter however the reason why this dramatic monologue is rather longer then the rest of his poems is because he has included a lot of description.

Porphyria's Lover
The first 5 lines sets a picture for the reader, and makes the reader visualise and also the use of colour is very effective. Browning has used weather to set the scene which then throughout the poem contrasts and relates to some of the language throughout the poem. Browning has written this poem in first person narrator, making Porphyria mysterious and not known to the audience, also what we know about Porphyria's lover is very limited.
Porphyria as a character is represented as feeling sage and confident: ' withdrew the dripping cloak and shawl', also the way her lover describes Porphyria is very detailed and this then leads on to her lover being unsure and reassuring himself throughout the poem that everythings going to be okay. Throughout the poem her lover is always questionning himself whether or not he actually does love her, also that he always wants her to belong to him which makes the poem a lot more dramatic and tense.
However what I found interesting is that when he was murdering her, Browning didn't write in detail alot about what happened, he kind of more or less concentrated on that feelings and emotions that these two people felt for eachother and made the readers want to investigate and ask questions. Relating back to the murder not being in detail, He ' wairly oped her lids:again. Laughed the blue eyes without a stain, this was very effective because it was a sign she was happy and content also lack of realisation of what her lover was goign to do.

My Last Duchess.
My last duchess is a dramatic monologue, spoken by the Duke of Ferrara who explains to a suitors ambassador why he had ordered his previous wife to be executed.
